It is one of the most visible and serious public health problems humanity has ever faced. The World Health Organisation is sounding the alarm: an epidemic is spreading worldwide. It is called obesity, and some are calling it a time-bomb. Cases of obesity doubled between 1980 and 2017. This problem knows no borders and it affects both emerging and industrialized countries. This growth is all the more worrying since it is affecting an increasingly younger demographic. The number of obese children has increased tenfold in the past 40 years.
What are the causes of this epidemic? Is it possible to curtail it?
The war against obesity sits at the crossroads of politics, science, and business. It needs to be waged on several fronts. While scientists try to establish the causes, doctors are seizing the latest discoveries tooffer patients new treatments. Meanwhile, pressure groups are trying to convince legislators to take measures to counter the powerful food industry, which is keen to continue peddling junk food.
This documentary is an investigation that runs against the grain in abid to get behind the conventional thinking and to separate true fromfalse.
